FAQ

Q. What is TrainPhotos?
A. TrainPhotos is a website dedicated to cataloging and archiving train photos. We are a community driven website, encouraging our visitors to contribute photos and information to make the site more complete. This website is useful to historians, railfans, modelers, and people seeking information about railroads, locomotives, rolling stock, and areas of operation.

Q. What is a "train photo"?
A. For the purpose of TrainPhotos, a train photo is a photo of a train with the emphasis on the train, not the scene that the train is in. Think of it as a photo of a train in a canyon, not a photo of a canyon with a train in it.

Q. Are you accepting scenery photos?
A. As a general rule, no. There are already many other great places online to contribute scenic photos. TrainPhotos is dedicated to storing and categorizing photos that have the emphasis on the train.

Q. Can you scan my photos or slides for me?
A. No. Unfortunately, I just do not have the time to scan photos or slides for others. If you are having problems or need help scanning photos or slides, you are welcome to post a message in the forum and maybe someone can help. The best source for scanning help would be a photography discussion group, or a group devoted to the manufacturer of your scanner.

Q. Can you process and upload files for me?
A. If you are experiencing problems uploading files, I can help. And I can, occasionally, process an image file for you. But I don't regularly process and upload files for other people.

Q. What are your photo requirements?
A. Only .jpg or .JPG type files and file extentions are allowed. Landscape format (horizontal) images should be between 800x800 and 1200x800. Portrait format (vertical) images should be between 600x800 and 800x1200. There is no restriction to the file size, you do not have to compress your pictures. 1200x800 is the preferred size.

Q. Can I upload someone else's photos?
A. To upload a photo, you must agree that it is your photograph, or you have full rights to it. Copyright infringement is not tolerated. All photographs belong to and are copyrighted by the original photographer. If you have a question about a photo, please contact the original photographer.
